Our Youth in Witness & Service
Following our Lord’s direction of “caring for the least of these,” all levels of our Youth Ministry
help plan and participate in servant events throughout the year. Our
Senior Youth help plan and participate in a week-long Servant Trip each
summer. For the last three years, we have done home repairs for
low-income, disabled elderly people in Rutherford County, NC. We also
take additional trips to work in homeless shelters, food banks, and
servant work at one of our Lutheran Camps each summer. Also, we do
yard work and minor home repairs for our church members each summer
during Vacation Bible School.
Our
Junior and Senior Youth groups, in the School Year 2008-09, have
already helped sort food at the Community Food Bank, cooked and served
lunch at the Corner Table Soup Kitchen on New Year’s Eve, prepared and
mailed 14 USO packages for our military troops in Afghanistan and Iraq,
helped build and run the games at our annual Trunk-n-Treat outreach,
worked behind the scenes and as some of the characters at our annual
Live Nativity outreach ministry. And for this spring, they are planning
a Canned Food Drive Blitz, working in conjunction with 5 of our local grocery stores, to raise, in one day, 2 tons of food for our ECCCM, our local food bank.
